Legendary back items are back items of Legendaryrarity. There are currently three legendary back pieces: Ad Infinitum, The Ascension and Warbringer. The Ascension is obtained via Player Versus Player activities, whereas Ad Infinitum is obtained by doing various fractals and purchasing items with Fractal Relics from the Mistlock Observatory merchants. Warbringer was added June 6th 2017, and is obtained through the World Versus World progression system added in the same update. Similar to other legendary equipment the Attribute combinations of legendary back pieces can be freely changed at any time the player is out of combat. Additionally legendary back pieces naturally carry two infusion slots and therefore don't need to be infused. All of these items are created through a mixture of crafting, finding, collecting and purchasing. Creation of the end item is a multi-step process which is completed using the Mystic Forge. While not time-gated, creating any of these items is a lengthy, time-consuming project. Once started, needed items can be obtained by ANY character on the account, and all of the created items are 'account-based'.

Since the Lost Shores update, you can find Green, Blue, and Yellow Back Slot items as regular drops, and not just from your personal story quest. In addition, Exotic and Ascended Backpieces are available to those who spend their time delving into the Fractals and dropping bundles of goods into the Mystic Forge. Every character has at minimum (depending on profession) a set of 3 different weapon slots: The main hand slot can hold one one-handed weapon or a two-handed weapon. The off hand slot can hold one off-hand weapon or, depending on the profession, a one-handed weapon, but can not be used when a two-handed weapon is equipped.
